The name TOBI is derived from “Tobi Shokunin” which is the term for highly specialised construction workers who work in higher places like scaffolding and tall buildings. There is even a leading workwear manufacturer in Japan, Toraichi, who brings out a yearly TOBI-catalogue. The wide legs are helping the construction workers to sensor more. Torachi explains it as cat's whiskers by brushing against obstacles and alerting workers earlier to potential dangers.
